Christmas in Paris

Dear Dad and Mother,

Another Christmas box arrived – this one contained cans of pineapple, tuna and juice. The fruit cake disappeared in a flash and the apricot juice was very good. The tuna, I think I will save until Christmas or New Year’s and we will try to get some French bread to go with it.

We still have rain and more rain, but by now I must be use to the climate, since my last cold was almost two months ago. We were given the choice of working either Christmas or New Year’s. I choose New Year’s because I’d rather be off on Christmas Day which is on Monday. I’ll also have next Sunday off, so with two days, I’ll feel as though I were on vacation. I would have liked to go to Midnight Mass at Notre Dame but I am afraid much of Paris will have the same idea and there is also the problem of returning to the Hotel. The METRO stops running at 11:30 PM and there is only “Shanks Mare” left and it is quite a long hike up the hill.

Thanks for sending the shoe repair material. I’ve had one pair of shoes in QM for nearly two weeks and goodness knows when I will get them back. The pair I am wearing is really down at the heel.

I had Lobby CQ (Charge of Quarters) Friday night from 7 to 12 PM. You are a general information clerk for everyone who comes in. I took the book “Dracula” along to keep me awake and it did! It nearly scared myself into fits. That was the first horror story I’ve read in a long, long time.
